142 An Email from Hal on Mon, 3 Feb 2003

Dear Keno,
My name is Hal de la Pole Pennefather, born 4-9-1928,and have lived in Zululand South Africa all my life.
Your letter seeking information on the Pennefather family in the ''British West Indies "is most interesting.
In 1937 my Father Henry Vansittart Pennefather and "William Reginald Palmer" were involved in a claim on the estate of ,Sir William Templer de la Pole, concerning property on the Island of St Christopher, known as "The
Mills Estate" (Nichola Town) and land known as ,"Mills Level". The documentation in my posession is incomplete, and am not sure as to the outcome of the litigation .
In 1985 a friend visited St Kitts and contacted a firm of Solicitors :Kelsick& Wilkins,in order to establish what had
happened to the property. Their letter states that ,Mills Estate, together with Philips & Molineux
Estates are the property of the late Rosemary Heartsease Bear James (nee Molineaux Montgomerie.) who died on 27 May 1979,and had been in Mrs James posession for 30 Years prior to her death.
Margaretta Luccesha Jane Maria de la Pole 1825--1891 was married to my Grandfather Henry Vansittart Pennefather 1822--1888 his Uncle, General Sir John Pennefather of Crimea fame.
Any further information you may have shall be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in anticipation,

Pennefather, Hal de la Pole (I1225)
143 An inquest was held at Datchworth, before T.Sworder, Esq., coroner, on Saturday last, on the body of Mr. William Pennyfather, farmer, of Colt's Foot Farm. -- Mrs. Eliza North, housekeepr to deceased, stated that he was 57 [sic] years old, and on Thursday afternoon was taken ill with pain the chest. He took some brandy and ginger wine, and on Friday he was taken ill again with the same pains, but more violently. He had been out walking after dinner. At 5 o'clock he went to bed, and witness went up soon after, and shut down the window. He was then puttin gon his night cap and rubbing his arm. In same moment she heard a rattling in his throat, and after calling the boys to go for his brother, she went to him. He was lying on his right side, with his face quite black: he was quite dead, -- Charles Fletcher, a labourer, went up-stairs, and found his master quite dead, and black in the face. He had given witness orders at half-past two o'clock, when he was in the yard, and apparently quite well. -- Mr. P. Reilly, surgeon was sent for, and reached there soon after six. He found deceased dead, but not cold, and his face much swollen. Has known deceased 17 years, and from the evidence, this he died of Sanguineous Apoplexy. - Verdict accordingly.
